Music
THE MUSIC GROUP consists at the moment (March 2008) of a small group of
singers whose main function is to lead the music each Sunday at the 10.30am.
Sung Mass. Rather than singing as an entity in their own right, they lead the
music from 'within', sitting amongst the congregation, giving support in hymn
singing and in the different congregational settings of the Mass which are used.
They come together as a group to perform anthems and songs as required, and
Cantors are responsible for leading the Sunday Psalm, using modem settings,
plainsong, and from time to time, Anglican chants. They are also responsible for
the music at the occasional mid-afternoon and evening services which may take
the form of a traditional Evensong, Meditation services on a particular theme,
Carol services and the like. Rehearsals are held usually on the first Monday of
the month at 6.30p.m. and new voices are always welcome.
Instrumentalists and solo singers are always encouraged to take part, and even
the Vicar and his wife are to be seen from time to time giving a spirited
rendition of a Cajun tune, or tripping it lightly to a traditional Morris dance
during the service!
THE ORGAN is a small two manual & pedals affair, based on the extension
principle, by Mander & Co. In spite of its size it is quite capable of
accompanying a full church and coping well with organ music of most periods if
the pieces are chosen with regard to the limitations of the instrument.
Any performers and singers are welcome to display their talents at the morning
Mass, even on a 'one-off'
basis and should contact either Fr. Ian at the Vicarage, or Mike Moore on 020
84713164 if interested.
