Personalities and Teams
We are strong believers in shared ministry, both in the organisation of the
Church, and in supporting each other in our witness and work in the world.
The Parochial Church Council meets four times in the year, and is
responsible for planning and monitoring our financial situation, our policies,
and for oversight of ministry, mission and liturgy.
The Churchwardens are:
Mel Lowe, who works for 'Inquest', a voluntary organisation that
campaigns on deaths in police custody.
Dr Graham Gould, a freelance lecturer and writer in theology. Graham studied theology at Cambridge and was a lecturer at King's College London from 1990 to 2003. He holds an authorization to preach in the parish from the Bishop of Barking. Click here for further details of Graham's activities.
The Vicar is:
Revd lan Harker, most of whose ministry has been in inner-city urban
areas, much of it as non-stipendiary community worker with single homeless
people.
The Standing Committee meets regularly to coordinate and plan our
programme of meetings.
The Pastoral Team of nine members exists to ensure that members of the
congregation who are absent for a while from Sunday worship are enquired after,
and if appropriate receive home or hospital visits. They will also pray weekly
for 'their' group.
Eucharistic ministers - we have a group of five Eucharistic ministers who
assist at the main Parish Communion, and occasionally preside at communion by
extension if a priest cannot be arranged.
Preparation for baptism (we have an open policy) and first communion is in the
hands of members of the congregation. Marriage preparation (we marry those whose
previous marriage has been dissolved) is undertaken by the vicar, as is funeral
visits and follow-up.
Youth ministry is an important part of our work and outreach. There is an
active Junior Church run by skilled staff, some young people are members of our
Servers Teams, uniformed organisations join in activities several times a year.
Saturday children's workshops are arranged in the lead up to Christmas and
Easter.
